Why Winter is One of My Favourite Seasons for Outdoor Family Sessions


I just wanted to jump on and share a little love for one of my absolute favourite seasons for family photography Winter! While most people think of spring blooms or golden summer light, winter has its own kind of magic and it’s honestly underrated.

Not only does it mean earlier bedtimes for your little ones (yes please!), but it also brings some of the most stunning skies you’ll ever see. Think soft pastel hues and fairy floss colours dancing across the sky.

So if you’ve been thinking about booking a session, here are my top reasons why winter might just be the perfect time.


 Shorter Days = Happy Kids

If you're a mum like me with little ones especially toddlers, this one’s for you. Winter in Brisbane means earlier sunsets, which means we can shoot during golden hour and still have everyone home in time for their normal bedtime. Win-win!


Magical Skies

Winter sunsets are just different. They’re soft, pastel, and oh so dreamy. The light during golden hour (that beautiful time just before sunset) is pure magic. Next time you're outside at that time, look up and soak in the beauty. Mother Nature really shows off in winter.


Cooler Temps, No Sweat (Literally)

Let’s be real, no one wants to be sweating through their session. Winter gives us that perfect in between weather, cool enough to be comfy, but not freezing. You and the kids can run around, play, cuddle, and not worry about melting in the heat. Yes please to fresh faces and happy kiddos!


Cozy Layers + Gorgeous Textures

This is one of my personal faves. There’s something so special about snuggling up in a chunky knit or jacket. Layers not only keep you warm, but they look amazing in photos. The added texture brings a whole new level of coziness and visual interest to your gallery. Plus, it’s the perfect excuse to wear that favourite winter outfit you’ve been saving!
